One of the hottest narratives right now in crypto is the rise of DePIN projects.
What is DePIN you may ask? DePIN stands for Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks and is used by developers to issue tokens to users as a way to incentivize their communities to build out infrastructure.
Currently there are a number of exciting projects in this space including Render, AirTor Protocol, Rowan Energy, and more. With a growing interest from larger players as well, this is going to be a sector that continues to expand rapidly in the months and years ahead because of all the tantalizing possibilities that developers can dream up.
The beauty of DePIN projects for the average player like us is that you can passively earn thousands of dollars a month mining some of these lesser known crypto projects. Many of the newest projects are free to sign up with and use, but others do require an upfront purchase of equipment to start the mining process. However after the purchase, everything is pure profit from that point on.
Hardware-Free DePIN Projects
Let’s start with the hardware-free DePIN Apps that you can start earning with today! These require no special hardware purchases to get started, but can run in the background of your smartphone or computer browser.
Silencio
Silencio is a community-powered network that incentivizes users to measure noise pollution. It is free to use and potentially very lucrative. All you need to do is download the app, and then several times a day either take noise measurements in different areas or check-in to new locations. The more measurements you take, the more NOISE coins you earn.
To get started:
Install the Silencio app from the App Store or Google Play.
Use my username "anthonyl37" as your invitation code when signing up.
Enter the application and you will find options “Venue Check-In” and “Open Measurements” which allow you to immediately start earning rewards.
It’s pretty simple to get started and takes minimal effort to start collecting more crypto tokens to your personal wallet. Take a little time within the app to learn more about some of the features that allow you to earn in more ways such as completing Quests, building daily check-in streaks, and more.
Staying active daily with this app is important. Each day you add a measurement to the network, you receive an additional 2.5% bonus which continues to add up. If you miss a day, you lose your rolling bonus % or are given an option to continue your broken streak at the cost of a portion of your previously-earned NOISE tokens.
The goal right now should be to collect as many tokens as you can in your wallet right now to receive a larger airdrop this Summer when the token is officially launched.
Natix Network
Natix offers a free phone application that allows you to earn rewards without the use of additional hardware. Simply position your phone on the dashboard of your vehicle and drive to collect points! You earn NATIX tokens for sharing your driving results as well as by completing missions and referring new users.
NATIX can be used to make purchases within the application or staked to earn a generous APY on the tokens you currently hold. Also, the more NATIX you collect now, the bigger your potential iLAND airdrop will be in the coming months.

Grass
Grass is another favorite of mine that allows you to sell unused internet bandwidth to AI companies who use it to train upcoming models. There is currently a desktop version that sits in the background as a Chrome extension. Eventually there will also be iOS and Android apps as well.
Each day while you run the Grass extension on your desktop, you earn Grass Points. Depending how much you utilize your bandwidth on a daily basis does affect how much you earn. So far, over the last month my daily points have ranged as low as 357 to as high as 2.4k.
Currently you cannot cash in your Grass Points within the system, but you can sell them on outside markets like Whales Market or hold them for future use, when potentially they are more valuable. The choice is yours!

DePIN Projects That Require a Hardware Purchase
Some of the best-performing DEPIN projects right now, do require the purchase of some basic hardware. The cost is variable, depending on the project.
If you have a vehicle, all three of these projects may be right up your alley and allow you to collect passive earnings simply from driving!
HiveMapper
HiveMapper is one of the better known current DePIN projects and lets you earn HONEY tokens via the use of their dashcam unit. Simply purchase hardware at Hivemapper.com, install in your vehicle and start collecting tokens as you contribute to their mapmaking efforts.
Now, the HiveMapper Bee Unit (the latest model) is a bit on the costly side and currently units will not start shipping until Q3. A wifi-Only version will run you $489 while a more advanced model with Cellular features runs $589. The purchase also comes with a bonus allocation of HONEY tokens.
The HiveMapper has been one of the best performing projects this year and I know a number of people making thousands of dollars a month, but there is an entry gateway to this with the cost and wait time. Personally, I ordered my unit in March and am still waiting on this, so the jury is out how much this unit will be earning for me in the months ahead.
DIMO
DIMO is another project that rewards your driving efforts. They are building a network of enterprise services for vehicles, and you earn DIMO tokens for connecting your car to their network and sharing your vehicle driving data via a small hardware device that comments via the OBD II port. Tokens can be cashed back in for $ or utilized to pay for services with partners who offer things such as vehicle repairs, insurance, and more.
Though not as lucrative (yet) as Hivemapper, the entry cost is lower and there is more upside long-term as they build their network of enterprise partners

DIMO claims that drivers have already earned more than $15M in total rewards, so the potential to profit here is strong. I just installed my own unit this week, so I will report back on how much I am personally earning on this soon.
Soarchain
Similar to DIMO, Soarchain provides a connectivity infrastructure for cars. They are building a decentralized ecosystem where participants such as drivers, developers and data partners can interact and exchange value securely. While driving, you earn tSOAR tokens which can be redeemed for rewards or staked to earn extra tokens.
Also like DIMO, Soarchain offers small hardware devices that connect to the OBD II port. (If you want to use both like I do, you can buy a splitter that allows both devices to run simultaneously) Currently, their only device is the Soarchain Mini which costs $83, but in the months ahead they will be adding more advanced Soarchain Pro and Soarchain B devices.
Soarchain is the newest of the driving hardware apps, and it is still a bit buggy. I’ve had several issues with the app disconnecting and forcing me to reinstall. However, it is still earlier in its lifecycle and I believe the best days are ahead for this option. It is also the most cost-friendly of the current driving hardware projects allowing those on a budget to get started more quickly.

So Can DePIN Make You Rich?
In the end, none of these projects is likely to make you rich. However, most of them run with pretty minimal effort on your part, so it’s like extra cash in your pocket each month. Even if they just knock off a few of your monthly bills or allow you to splurge on some extras, I consider this a win!
Additionally, expect to see more of these types of projects as the space matures. That will mean more competition and likelier more lucrative rewards for early adopters. We will keep you posted on new opportunities to earn as they come on our radar.
